International Shipping Charges Guide by Weight
International shipping charges are generally determined by the chargeable weight of the parcel, which is the greater of the Actual Weight or the Volumetric Weight.
DTDC uses a slab-based pricing system where charges are calculated in increments (e.g., 0.5 kg, 1 kg, etc.). Since rates are dynamic and dependent on fluctuating fuel surcharges, foreign exchange rates, and the specific destination pin code within Qatar, we advise using the official DTDC Rate Calculator for the most precise quote.
Volumetric Weight Calculation
Courier companies must account for both the weight of the parcel and the amount of space it occupies on an aircraft or truck. This is where volumetric weight comes into play.
The volumetric weight (VW) is calculated using the following standard formula for air freight and international shipping:
Volumetric Weight (kg) = [Length (cm) × Width (cm) × Height (cm)] ÷ 5000
Chargeable Weight
The Chargeable Weight: DTDC will charge you based on the higher of the two: the Actual Weight (measured on a scale) or the Volumetric Weight (calculated using the formula above).
For example if your parcel weighs 5 kg (Actual Weight) but measures 50 × 40 × 30 cm, the Volumetric Weight would be:
[50 × 40 × 30] ÷ 5000 = 60000 ÷ 5000 = 12 kg
Since 12 kg (VW) is greater than 5 kg (Actual Weight), the chargeable weight for your shipment would be 12 kg.
How DTDC Courier Charges to Qatar are Calculated
The final DTDC International Courier Charge to Qatar is a sum of several components:
- Base Freight Charge: Determined by the chargeable weight and the destination zone (i.e., Qatar).
- Fuel Surcharge (FSC): A variable charge based on the current market price of aviation fuel.
- GST (Goods and Services Tax): The applicable Indian tax on courier services (typically 18%).
- Customs Duty/Taxes (DDU/DDP): Any import duties, taxes, or clearance fees levied by Qatar Customs (unless shipped DDP - Duty Paid).
- Remote Area Surcharge (RAS): An additional fee if the delivery address in Qatar falls into a difficult-to-service or remote location pin code.
- Value-Added Services: Charges for insurance, special handling (e.g., fragile goods), or specific documentation services.
